Teen Spots Toddler Desperately Flailing In Pool & Leaps Over Fence To Save Her.

It’s that time of year when children of all ages are getting out of school and flocking to the nearest pool, which means it’s also that time of year to remain especially vigilant. Not all children, after all, know how to swim.

Late last month, 13-year-old Haylei McGillis was walking past an apartment complex in Indianapolis, Indiana, and saw a group of young children gathered in the courtyard near a pool. Nothing too notable about that, right?

But she stopped short when she realized who was inside the pool: A 3-year-old girl. She was alone, and she appeared to be on the verge of drowning.

I just looked away for a quick second and looked back and I saw the little girl … She was, like, moving her arms then stopped for a second and froze and kept on.

It was around 8 p.m., so the pool was closed and there was no lifeguard on duty. The other children were trying to save the little girl themselves by throwing a nearby hose into the water and hoping she’d latch on. But Haylei wasn’t going to just wait around to see what happened…

“I’m like, ‘She’s not dying on my hands,’” she said, so she scaled the fence and jumped into the pool, then pulled the girl to safety at the pool’s edge. She coughed up water, but was otherwise unharmed.

The story about this brave young lady’s actions have spread far and wide in the days since, with many calling her a hero and a credit to her generation.

See the full report below and share to spread thanks to Haylei for her quick actions that night.
